I'm a fan of most web 2.0 sites, because they usually delivers both the beauty (sharp graphics, clever CSS) and the brains (interactive media delivery, browser based editing, etc). But, there are still many complications with the terminology and implementation of Web 2.0 features and sometimes they simply doesn't make sense.
Here is one: ifitsmovies.com. A decidedly Web 2.0 site with an eye-catching, colorful layout and gradient, sharp graphics. Then there is the Categories box which should you aid in browsing the website that just doesn't work. (See the screenshot above)
Now let's see what's wrong here, as far as website usability concerned:
- Although the words in this box are tags, the box is labeled as categories
- There is a "Movie" tag followed by "Movies" tag. Hmm, what the difference may be?
- Although it's called "Categories" the most obvious word is "Uncategorized"
- There are no significant distinction between tags, it looks just like a box of words
Tags are not categories. They both have different functions and different uses. YouTube and Digg are some of those Web 2.0 breed who successfully mashes tags and categories in a useful manner. So if you're having difficulty, just analyze their sites implement accordingly. Or order your professional review from us, we will show you the right way :)
